Police officer injured and two teenagers in custody following pursuit

Two teenage boys were arrested last night following a pursuit over the North Yorkshire / Cleveland border.

At around 4.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 18 November) North Yorkshire Police received information from Cleveland Police that a vehicle suspected as stolen in a robbery was heading their way.

North Yorkshire officers tracked the vehicle to the Newton-under-Roseberry area and began to follow it.

The vehicle failed to stop for officers and a pursuit followed that ended on Ladgate Lane near the junction with Marton Road in Middlesbrough.

The suspects first tried to squeeze their car between a crossing and a car driven by a member of the public, damaging the car in the process, before hitting a North Yorkshire Police car that was travelling in the opposite direction.

The two suspects ran from the vehicle but were arrested a short time later.

The member of the public was uninjured.

A police officer travelling in the police vehicle was taken to hospital with suspected rib, neck and arm injuries. He has since been discharged.

The two suspects, both aged 17 from Middlesbrough were arrested and taken into custody before being handed over to Cleveland Police.
