A York post office has closed suddenly.
Micklegate Post Office has been shut for a few days.
A sign on the door says: “Sorry but this Post Office Branch is temporarily closed.
“We would like to apologise that due to unforeseen circumstances this branch is closed until further notice.”
No reason has been given for the closure. One user took to social media to say they were due to collect a parcel from Micklegate Post Office delivered there by DPD.
After finding it closed, they had contacted DPD. “I spoke with them they said they would email them but heard nothing. What a nightmare.”

On the notice in the window, it directs people expecting to collect parcels to:
- the Post Office at TG Jones in Coney Street
- the Royal Mail Sorting Office on Leeman Road
- the Parcelforce depot on Millfield Lane.
But the user said she’d visited the Coney Street branch “and they said they didn’t know anything about it”.
One person apparently connected with Micklegate Post Office came online to say: “Hi everyone. Sorry about all the confusion.
“The post office is temporary closed at the moment. Any DPD parcels that were delivered on Wednesday are still in the branch. When we reopen you can collect them.”
We have contacted the Post Office to ask for more information.
