Shop closes on Coney Street in York – but a new store is ready to move in

Soon after one shop moved out of York’s Coney Street, another one is set to take its place.

The latest comings and goings on this key shopping street have seen Peggy Bridal move out of York.

It moved in to number 24 Coney Street in August 2024. But the business has now left the city and returned to its original Holmfirth home.

In a message on Facebook earlier this month, the Peggy Bridal team said: “As we close the doors of Peggy Bridal York for the final time this weekend, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you.

“To every bride who trusted us to be part of her wedding journey, thank you for making the last two years so special.

“To our incredible team, thank you for your hard work, passion and dedication in creating unforgettable experiences for our brides.

“And to the wonderful people of York, thank you for welcoming us with open arms and supporting us from day one.”

Now a new shop has taken over at number 24 Coney Street.

Called York Curios, it is being painted and fitted out.

On Instagram, the shop describes itself as “original York gifts, curiosities and jewellery, hidden inside a centuries-old York building with a few stories to tell”.

It added yesterday (Tuesday): “Our sign is being carefully prepared and hand-painted on Coney Street.

“After months of planning, designing and dreaming, York Curios is slowly coming to life. We can’t wait to welcome you soon.”
