LNER issues ‘Do not travel’ advice due to major rail disruption

A broken rail is causing long delays on services on the East Coast Main Line in the Newark area.

LNER says: “We are experiencing major disruption between Newark Northgate and Retford today, Monday 10 November, affecting the whole LNER route.

“As a result, our advice is ‘Do Not Travel’.

“This is due to services being significantly reduced which will result in the services that are running to be extremely busy. You may experience delays to your journey as well.”

Network Rail staff are working to fix the issue.

LNER tickets dated Monday 10 November are valid for travel up to and including Tuesday 11 November.

Hull Trains at Selby and Grand Central at Thirsk and Northallerton are also affected by this problem

LNER say You can use your ticket at no extra cost on the following services –

  • Avanti West Coast between London Euston, Manchester, Glasgow Central, and Edinburgh.
  • TransPennine Express between Manchester, Leeds, York, and Newcastle.
  • Northern between Carlisle and Newcastle.
  • East Midlands Railway (EMR) between London St Pancras, Leicester, and Sheffield.
  • CrossCountry between Sheffield, Doncaster/Leeds, York, Newcastle, and Edinburgh.
  • Great Northern and Thameslink between London King’s Cross and Peterborough – If you’re traveling North of Peterborough, please use alternative operators and routes.

Please be aware that other operators’ services are also likely to be busy.
