The result of the Ripon City Council By-Election is in.
Independent Sherrie Hunt has beaten the Lib Dems to take the Ure Bank Ward following the resignation of councillor, Jo Bate.
There was a 33% turnout.
Sherrie Hunt got 500 votes, Tom Cavell -Taylor got 396 for the Lib Dems and Paula Pearse for Reform UK received 168
The result means the group led by the Mayor, Lib Dem, Cllr Barbara Brodigan, no longer has a majority on the city council going forward.
There is a parish poll called by a group of residents of Ripon to assess public confidence in the city’s mayor. It’s due to be held on Thursday, November 27.
Barbara Brodigan has branded it a politically motivated waste of taxpayers’ money.
But the proposer of the poll, Ripon resident Brian McHugh, said tonight, it should still go ahead.
He added it would give electors the chance to give their views on the state of Ripon City Council, which has seen staff resignations and a fall-out among councillors in recent weeks.
The poll, which is being organised by North Yorkshire Council, will ask Ripon residents if they have confidence in Cllr Brodigan.
It will take place between 4pm and 9pm next Thursday, with four polling stations operating on the day.
