Historic York building earmarked for pub expansion now back on the market

A York historic building which was set to be taken over by the pub next door is now back on the market.

Lendal House, a three-floor standalone building on Lendal, is up for rent.

It’s been empty for a number of years now but looked set for a new lease of life.

Last year, the Judge’s Lodging owners Thwaites won planning permission to transform Lendal House into an extendion.

The pub and hotel, found next door, proposed to turn former offices on the upper two floors of Lendal House into 12 more bedrooms.

It was granted permission to do that last July, along with refurbishment of nearby Joseph Terry House.

But now Lendal House is up for rent. The ground floor – most recently home to the Jack Wolfskin store – and the two higher floors can be used for retail, leisure or office purposes.

It is being marketed by Carter Towler for an annual rent of £67,500. Its rateable value is £73,500.

The details say: “Lendal House comprises an impressive Grade II Listed stand alone building which from the central entrance provides 2 open plan wings of floor space either side of a grand central staircase leading to 2 further upper levels of accommodation and ancillary storage made up of a series of rooms off the buildings central core.”

Thanks to its position between Museum Street and St Helen’s Square, there is “strong pedestrian footfall” past the building.
