Police have arrested two women in connection with a smash and grab at a York sweet shop today (Monday).
As we reported earlier, the Shambles Sweet Shop was broken into in the early hours.
Seven windows were smashed in the raid, and sweets taken from the window display.
Police responded as soon as a member of the public called it in at 4.49am.
This afternoon, a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We launched an investigation this morning which included specialist forensic examination at the shop.
“Shortly after 12pm today we arrested two women in their 40s on suspicion of burglary. They are currently in custody.

“It hit the sweet spot for our officers when we were able to recover and return most of the stolen property to the owner of the business.”
Owner of The Shambles Sweet Shop Adam Scott told YorkMix about 70kg of sweets were taken.
Anyone who has information about what happened is asked to contact police.
