A raider smashed their way into a shop in York city centre early this morning (Monday).
The thief broke seven windows in The Shambles Sweet Shop on the famous street.
They stole all the stock in the window display, amounting to 70kg of sweets – or 11 stones (154lb).
The perpetrator cut themselves on the broken glass. From the trail of blood they made their way into Shambles Market after the break-in.
Forensic investigators from North Yorkshire Police have been on the scene this morning.

Officers had placed a cordon around the shop. This has now been lifted.
Owner of The Shambles Sweet Shop Adam Scott told YorkMix he got a call at 5am to tell him what had happened.
“A member of the public had found the shop smashed up,” he said. “Someone’s come along, smashed seven windows, taken all the sweets out of the window.
“They’ve reached through, taking everything on the shelf they could reach. It’s about 70 to 80 kilos of sweets, so it’s a lot of stuff. So it’s not just a daft kid.”
He added: “The level of idocy is quite hard to understand.”

Adam will now have to sort repairs to the shop which he hopes to reopen later in the week.
“it’s a massive waste of my time, and expensive. The damage will outweigh what the sweets cost,” he said.
Last year there was a spate of break-ins on Shambles. The sweet shop theft is the first for a while.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are investigating a commercial burglary at the Shambles Sweet Shop on The Shambles in York.
“A member of the public reported the incident at 04.49am today (Monday).
“Officers attended and discovered six windows which had been smashed at the business and shelves removed.
“An investigation is now underway which includes forensic examination which has taken place at the shop this morning.’
