It’s one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, but as yet York has few places to play.
But enthusiasts of racket sport padel might soon have a new venue to try.
Plans are in to create three padel courts in an industrial unit in Dunnington.

They would be constructed in Compass House, off Common Road.
The planning application has been submitted to City of York Council by Simpson (York) Holdings Ltd. Its HQ is at the neighbouring Hassacarr Close, Chessingham Park, Dunnington.
Records show that Compass House was last sold for £900,000 in 2023.
Under the propsals two padel courts would be created on the ground floor, with a third on a newly-constructed mezzanine.
They would take up a combined area of 3,400 sq m (36,600 sq ft).
It is the lastest proposal for padel facilities in York. Plans for two courts at the nearby Dunnington’s Sports and Social Club, in Common Road, were submitted last year.
And four courts are proposed at York Sports Club on Shipton Road, Clifton.
