Filming begins in York on new thriller which features stars from Barbie and Star Wars

Filming has begun in York for a new erotic thriller.

We reported last week that St Mary’s, off Bootham, will be closed to traffic for filming for a week from today (Monday 9 February) till Friday (13 February).

We can now reveal the filming is for a new thriller titled ‘Scorn’, which has a cast list featuring stars from Barbie and Star Wars.

Adria Arjona (Andor, Hit Man), Kingsley Ben-Adir (Barbie, Bob Marley: One Love), Freya Mavor (Industry), and Guy Burnet (Oppenheimer) are among the actors in the movie.

The film will follow a woman who begins a passionate affair with a married man, but when he tries to re-cast their love as just a fling, she refuses to go away quietly.

It is written and directed by Sarah-Violet Bliss, and produced by Dylan Clark Productions, Topic Studios, and Unified Productions.

A release date for the film is yet to be announced.

The cast were also reportedly filming in Horsforth, Leeds, at the end of January.

We’ve not spotted any of the stars on St Mary’s yet. Some of the filming is inside one of the properties on the street.

However, Adria Arjona was also spotted with Aquaman boyfriend Jason Momoa, dining at The Whippet Inn in York last week – described by the owner as a ‘total delight’.

Adria Arjona is best known for starring as Bix Caleen in the critically-acclaimed and award-winning Star Wars spin-off Andor.

Filming is set to continue all week, with the main actors and extras reported to appear. St Mary’s will be will be closed to traffic from the property at number 6 to St Mary’s Lane, near Marygate car park.

Scorn is the latest to use York as a backdrop for filming, with series two of Channel 4 drama Patience filming last summer and new Christmas comedy Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint filming in November.
