Filming continued in the city centre today (Tuesday) for new Christmas movie Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint.
The comedy will star many famous names – including Celebrity Traitors favourite Celia Imrie, Richard E Grant, Nigel Planer and Karl Pilkington.
Filming began yesterday, and lead actor John Bradley, who played Samwell Tarly in Game of Thrones, was shooting scenes on Colliergate.

According to Jo Patton, of York’s independent toy shop Totally Awesome, he was seen “fighting off elves with candy canes”.
John Bradley is playing the titular Aubrey Flint, who has a deep disdain for Christmas. “When he’s sentenced to community service at Willow Lodge, a charming but struggling retirement home, Aubrey finds himself begrudgingly roped into directing a chaotic resident-led production of A Christmas Carol,” reports the British Comedy Guide.
Produced by SUMS Film & Media in association with Ripon-based Shush Films, the movie is directed by Jack Spring and written by Chris Boyle-McQuarry.
The crew have transformed 5 Colliergate into ‘The Miniature World of Wonders’, one of the settings for the scenes being filmed in the city.
Filming vans can also be seen lining the street on Fossgate.
Filming will continue in the city centre for the rest of the week, with Withnail and I star Richard E Grant reportedly coming to York for the shoot.
Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint can be seen on screens for Christmas 2026.
