Another fire started in York park – Police called in

Youths have been blamed for another fire started in a York park.

Firefighters were called to the incident, off Scarcroft Road, at 8.29pm last night (Tuesday).

The precise location hasn’t been specified but Micklegate Stray and the Scarcroft Road allotments are next to the road.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The Easingwold crew responded to a bin on fire in a park.

“Crews used two knapsack sprayers to extinguish. The cause is believed to be deliberately set by youths, police were informed.”

Last year Cllr Jonny Crawshaw spoke of his fears of a potential catastrophe after a series of fires in his Micklegate ward, particulary around the Scarcroft Road area.
