Police have released a man they arrested in connection with a sudden death investigation in York.
Officers have today issued an update on the incident, in which a man died in Brownlow Street in the Groves at 4am yesterday (Friday).
Paramedics called police to the scene as they tried in vain to save the life of the man in his 50s.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said today: “Following a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in York, officers do not believe any criminal offences were involved.
“Extensive enquiries were carried out, including speaking to witnesses and reviewing significant volumes of CCTV footage.

“As a result, the man’s death is not believed to have resulted from any criminal offences.
“A 56-year-old man who was arrested has now been released from custody with no further action in connection with the man’s death.”
His family are being supported by specially-trained officers.

Police cordoned off a number of streets in the Groves and placed a police guard at a house on Huntington Road during their investigation yesterday. These have now been lifted.
“We know this tragic incident will have caused upset and concern in the local area,” the force spokesperson said.
“Neighbourhood Policing Team officers will continue to carry out high-visibility patrols there, to offer ongoing reassurance. We are grateful to the community for their support and understanding throughout the investigation.”
