Police have launched an investigation after a man died in York early today (Friday).
Paramedics were called to Brownlow Street in the Groves at 4am where they were helping a man in his 50s who was in cardiac arrest.
Despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The man’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained, though officers believe there was an incident in the area around 2am which may be relevant to the investigation.
“Extensive enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are underway – and formal identification of the victim will take place in due course.”
A 56-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident a short time later. He currently remains in custody.
The Senior Commander for York, Superintendent Ed Haywood-Noble, said: “We will remain in the area while enquiries continue, officers are providing a visible and reassuring presence for local residents. Anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak to officers on patrol.

“As enquiries are at a very early stage, we would urge people not to speculate or comment online. While we understand this incident will have caused concern within the community, at this time we believe it to be an isolated event.”
A police guard is in place outside a house on Huntington Road. Brownlow Street, Lowther Street and March Street are also cordoned off.
Police are appealling for anyone who has not yet spoken with officers – as well as anyone with information or any relevant doorbell, dash cam or CCTV footage – to contact them.
