York school launches fundraiser to replace ‘vital’ stolen minibus

A York school whose minibus was stolen has launched a crowdfunding campign to replace it.

Fulford School’s original minibus was last seen on 11 March and taken some time that night.

Police have been investigating the theft of the Ford Transit bus since then.

The theft has led to significant difficulties for the school.

A replacement costs £50,000 but insurance covered only £10,000 to replace the second hand vehicle.

The JustGiving crowdfunder states: “This leaves us with a significant shortfall that we simply cannot meet within existing school budgets.

“The minibus is vital for trips, sport and enriching experiences for our pupils.”

Since the theft the school has had hire transport several times a week, at the cost of hundreds of pounds.

The crowdfunder states: “The minibus is far more than just transport. It gives our pupils access to opportunities they would not otherwise have – school trips, sporting fixtures, enrichment activities and experiences that build confidence, independence and lasting memories.

“For many of our pupils, these moments are some of the most important and inspiring parts of their school journey.”

It adds: “Your generosity will help ensure that our pupils continue to benefit from experiences beyond the classroom – helping them to grow, achieve and create positive memories that will stay with them for years to come.”
