York police seized two illegally-modified electric bikes last night (Saturday) – and were shocked to discover one had a top speed of 103.8mph.
This bike was seen and stopped by Police Community Support Officers in the Clifton area.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “With assistance from our neighbourhood officers this bike has been taken off the roads for good.

“Shockingly this adapted bike had the capability of reaching 103.8mph.We don’t want to spoil Christmas, but it’s important to stay safe while using the roads.
“To put this into context the legal limit for an e-bike is 15.5mph. The motor must always cut out and be pedal assisted something this didn’t do.”
This is the fastest modified e-bike found in York so far.
Last month an e-bike that could go at 62mph was seized, and in October an e-bike capable of 68mph was stopped after it was spotted racing down Gale Lane in Acomb.
