Police have seized two illegal e-bike in York this weekend.
The bike, pictured above, on Duncombe Place near York Minster, was spotted by a patrol officer. It was capable of reaching 30mph.
But another one, taken off the roads this weekend, could get up to 62mph. That means it’s classed as a motorcycle. The legal limit for an E-bike is 15.5mph and the motor should always cut out on reaching the permitted speed and be pedal assisted.
The riders have been reported.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “It is important to remember that not only does this pose a risk to other members of the public but also to themselves.
“Ride safely and legally or risk having your e-bike seized.”
Last month an e-bike capable of similar speeds was seized after police saw the rider racing down Gale Lane in Acomb.
