York is the least affordable place to buy a home in Yorkshire and the Humber, a new survey has found.
Properties in the city also cost more than in Edinburgh, a new survey found.
Zoopla carried out an analysis to underline to home buyers just how much space they can typically expect to get for their money in different locations.
They have worked out how much it costs for a piece of floor space equivalent to a sheet of A4 paper.
In York an A4-sized floor space will set buyers back around £209 typically. That’s the highest in Yorkshire and the Humber.
The lowest is North East Lincolnshire at £90.
York’s £209 is more than the £204 paid in Edinburgh.
Zoopla has a tool which allows buyers to set a minimum square footage alongside their price range.
Richard Donnell, executive director at Zoopla, said: “Our analysis shows that the gap between what £200 gets you in Westminster versus what it buys in the North West is not just a number – it is the difference between a sliver of a page and two full sheets of paper.
“That is the true scale of Britain’s housing divide, and it is something every buyer and homeowner should understand as they plan their next move.”
