Firefighters have taken action against portable barbecues and campfires as the wildfire risk remains high.
A crew from Grassington responded to reports of people having a portable barbecue at Linton, Skipton at 6.58pm.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “This occurred in an area where there are numerous signs stating that barbecues are not allowed.
“Fire crews located the BBQ and extinguished using a bucket of water.”
At 10.36pm, crews went to reports of people around a campfire in Goathland.
The spokesperson said: “The fire was extinguished due to the wind embers blowing onto the moorland.
“Crews extinguished the campfire using a bucket of water and ensured there were no hotspots.”
Wildfire prevention advice
North Yorkshire Fire Service has made numerous appeals for people to be careful has the heatwave has created a serious risk of wildfires.
This is the advice they have issued:
“When you’re out and about, remember that it only takes a tiny spark to start a wildfire.
“Please follow all warning signs and guidance in the areas you visit.
“Instead of taking a barbecue into the countryside, pack a picnic.
“Please take all litter home with you, particularly glass bottles and jars, which can increase the risk of fires.
“Never light campfires, as the ground is extremely dry and even a small spark can ignite nearby vegetation.
“Fires can also spread unseen beneath the surface, making them difficult to detect and control.”
