York City announced they’ve signed a player from Premier League today.
The club has picked up Sunderland AFC defender Zak Johnson on loan until January.
Sunderland born and bred, the 21-year-old has risen up the ranks at the Black Cats.
He’s played four times for Sunderland since making his debut in the EFL Trophy in 2021, when he was 16.
In the 2023/24 season, Johnson took two loan spells away from Sunderland, joining Hartlepool United in the National League and then League of Ireland side Dundalk for the second half of the season.

He played 28 times for both clubs.
In January 2025, Zak joined up with Stuart Maynard’s Notts County side where he featured ten times for the now City manager.
