Well-known York garage set to be turned into Chinese car dealership

A well-known York garage is set to change soon.

Plans are in for the D&J Woodcock Garage Services business on Malton Road.

Under the proposals by Ray Chapman of Ray Chapman Motors, it would become a Chery Dealership.

Planning documents state: “The site is currently a vacant car sales site; it has however been in use as a commercial garage for decades.

“This proposal aims to bring the vacant site back into commercial use thus creating 15 new full-time jobs.

“Whilst the site is in the Green Belt, this proposal seeks to re-use the existing permanent building with minimal alterations and no increase in footprint.”

The document adds: “The development shall incorporate a 7-car showroom and a new brand focused frontage, with brand / dealership signage and Brand Totem sign.”

Founded in 1997, Chery is currently the fourth largest car manufacturer group in China.

Chery has operations in over 80 countries and regions worldwide, with 15 million customers.
