Police arrived in numbers after they were alerted about a suspected theft at a York store.
Three police vehicles went to Fenwick department store in the Coppergate Centre at 4.30pm this afternoon (Monday).
Two women were detained on the first floor of the shop.


A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Just after 4.30pm this afternoon, we got a call that two suspects had been seen picking up and concealing products in Fenwick.
“Our officers attended immediately, and located two women with suspected stolen items.
“Both of them have been arrested in connection with several shop thefts, and taken into custody.”
Police added on Tuesday: “The two suspects have been released under investigation while enquiries continue. They are an 18-year-old woman from Bishop Auckland and a 17-year-old year-old form Houghton-le-Spring in County Durham.”
