Two people were rescued from the river by York Rescue Boat last night (Sunday).
After the alarm was raised, a major rescue operation swung into action, which also involved the police, fire service, paramedics and the police helicopter.
The call came in that people were in the River Ouse in York at 10.22pm.
A York Rescue Boat spokesperson said: “Our volunteers were called out at 10.22pm on Sunday night by North Yorkshire Police to reports of two people in the water in the centre of York.
“Working with North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service crews we rescued both people from the water and passed into the care of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
“Joint working saves lives.”
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Acomb responded to a report of two persons in the river.
“Crews located on the river banks and used thermal imaging cameras and torches to locate the casualties.
“Both casualties were rescued from the river by York Rescue Boat crews and left in the care of ambulance crews.”
