Two arrested after police spot a car doing 60mph in a 20mph zone

Two people have been arrested after police caught up with a fleeing vehicle near Thirsk.

Shortly before 10.35pm yesterday evening, North Yorkshire Police officers on patrol spotted a car driving erratically in Sowerby. They activated sirens and blue lights, but instead of pulling over, the driver made off towards the A168 – at speeds of up to 60mph in a 20mph limit.

With police in hot pursuit, the car eventually came to a halt, and the occupants made off on foot.

Officers chased after them, and the police helicopter arrived in the skies overhead. A man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s were soon arrested nearby.

The man was arrested for dangerous driving and failing to stop. The woman was arrested on suspicion of assaulting police officers and resisting arrest.
