‘This is what we have to deal with’: York man jailed after multiple attacks on public and police

A man who went on a spree of violence hours after being released from jail is back inside.

Luke Fletcher left prison on Friday 5 December.

Within hours he’d carried three violent assaults on members of the public. Just after midnight on the Saturday he was arrested trying to flee a York city centre hotel.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “He went on to damage his cell at York Police Station and assaulted a officer by throwing what was initially thought to be the contents of a drink he was provided with, through the cell door hatch.

“It was later suspected this was in fact water from the toilet in his cell.”

This is “just a snapshot of what officers deal with on a weekly basis,” police said.

After 24 hours in his police cells, he was charged with nine offences.

On Tuesday (16 December) he was sentence to 36 weeks’ imprisonment at court.
