York City fans are gearing up for an evening of celebration.
Work is underway in the city today to prepare for the bus parade for our footballing champions.
As YorkMix reported yesterday, the long-awaited parade goes ahead tonight, from 7pm.
It follows an incredible season for the Minstermen, who topped the National League table with 108 points and earned direct promotion back into the Football League.
York City fan Simon Pattinson says the day has been a long time coming.
“It’s good to see the side get the chance to get the parade around the city where we as fans live – the only way is up!” he said.
“To be honest with you, I don’t think any City fan would have ever thought that this was possible.

“We’re very lucky to have the owners that we do and the players that we do, and I think the sky is the limit.”
York Outer MP Luke Charters was one of those calling for the parade to take place after it was put in doubt due to safety concerns.
He told YorkMix: “I’m absolutely chuffed that common sense has prevailed.
“Thank you to North Yorkshire Police for engaging with me. I was tough in some of those chats, but ultimately they have listened.
“Thank you to David Skaith, the mayor, he’s back this. It wouldn’t be going ahead without him. But most of all, thank you to the club for organising this straight out of Ibiza.”
The parade will start at 7pm at St Leonard’s Place outside York Art Gallery.
The 1.25-mile long route will journey along:
- Museum Street
- Station Road
- Rougier Street, George Hudson Street
- Bridge Street
- Clifford Street.
The route finishes at Eye of York, at about 7.45pm to 8pm. Full details here.
