York City bus parade: Full route and details revealed

The route and full details of the York City bus parade have been revealed.

City of York Council published the details of the event which will begin tomorrow at 7pm.

They said: “Plan ahead to make sure your Thursday runs exactly how you want it to. Delays will be kept to a minimum but safety of the parade is paramount.”

The parade is to celebrate the record-breaking York City men’s team who have been promoted back to the Football League after being crowned champions of the National League.

Timings

The parade will start at 7pm at St Leonard’s Place outside York Art Gallery, and will finish at the Eye of York. Timings are estimates after this, but the parade should take about 30 to 45 minutes.

The 1.25-mile long route starts at St Leonard’s Place and will journey along:

  • Museum Street
  • Station Road
  • Rougier Street, George Hudson Street
  • Bridge Street
  • Clifford Street.

The route finishes at Eye of York, at about 7.45pm to 8pm.

Watch the parade

There are no dedicated viewing areas, and people are advised to find a spot along the length of the route.

City of York Council said: “We are not able to provide specific accessible viewing areas, but have made it a long route to allow as many people as possible to watch it.

“We recommend those uncomfortable in large crowds choose a less congested location along the route which is away from major landmarks, or choose a wider street where there is more space to move around.

“We also urge fans lining the route to be courteous to families, older people and those with accessible needs.”

Travel and parking

Rolling road closures along the route will be short term to allow the parade to pass.

City of York Council strongly advise people to stay local and walk or cycle if possible.

“We strongly advise you do not drive towards parts of the parade route, particularly into the city centre, and ask fans to either walk or try and view the parade as close to home as possible.”

Much of Castle car park will be closed, apart from a section for Blue Badge drivers.

St George’s Field is close to the Eye of York finish.

Parade safety

The use of flares, pyrotechnics, or anything similar is banned on public safety grounds.

No drones are allowed on the parade route. Any unauthorised drones on the parade route will be removed.

The council says: “We’re asking parents, carers and guardians to take a photograph of children they’re accompanying before attending the parade.

“Should you become separated, this will help identify them quickly; please alert your nearest steward or member of North Yorkshire Police immediately. There will be a ‘lost and found person’ facility within the first aid area at The Eye of York.

“Stewards will be distributing wristbands to attach to a child or vulnerable person, on which you can write the telephone number of a responsible adult.”
