The swing bridge in Whitby town centre has been closed to both vehicles and pedestrians for several days due to a mechanical fault.
Over the weekend, Police received reports of people attempting to climb over the bridge.
This, they say, poses a serious risk to both themselves and others.
A police spokesperson said: “Please do not attempt to climb the bridge under any circumstances while repairs are ongoing.
“We ask all members of the public to use alternative routes when travelling, whether on foot or by vehicle.”
North Yorkshire Council says: “The bridge is susceptible to expansion during very hot weather which means that it can become stuck during swinging operations.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and will reopen the bridge as soon as possible but given the hot temperatures it is likely to remain closed for the rest of today.”
Two shuttle busses will be available throughout the day until further notice to transport from both sides of the Bridge.
West – Bus station.
East – Grape Lane turning circle.
