Sold! Historic North Yorkshire hotel on the market for £2m

A North Yorkshire hotel that dates back hundreds of years is about to enter a new chapter in its long history.

The Old Lodge in Malton is a 17th century Tudor mansion set within 3.6 acres of private grounds.

It was on sale with an asking price of £2.15 million, although the final agreed price has not been disclosed.

Business property adviser Christie & Co sold the Old Lodge on behalf of Ajay Abhaya Kumar and Anupama Banerji.

Ajay commented, “Both Anu and I are delighted to have completed the sale of The Old Lodge.

“This has been a very special property for us, and we are pleased to see it pass into the hands of owners who clearly care deeply about its future and heritage.”

The hotel was sold to Chris and Jane Berridge, who are first time entrants into the hotel sector but already experienced business people.

Chris and Jane commented, “We are delighted to own the Old Lodge which is a beautiful building with extensive gardens and has very much been part of Malton’s history for over 400 years.

“We just fell in love with it! It is carefully managed by a great team of staff, who we thank for their help and support as we get involved.

“We are also grateful to our legal team from Wilkin Chapman Rollits who moved so fast with Christie & Co to complete the deal. This is a new and exciting opportunity for us, and we look forward to getting to know everyone in Malton.”

Christie & Co regional director David Lee managed the sale process. “We are delighted to have concluded the sale of The Old Lodge in a timely manner,” he said.

“Once the offer was accepted, completion was achieved within just a few weeks. We would like to wish the new owners, who are first time hotel owners but experienced business people, every success in their new venture. We would also like to thank Ajay for the opportunity to sell The Old Lodge.

“The demand for hotel assets remains high, despite ongoing challenges facing the hospitality sector, and we invite anyone looking to acquire or sell their hotel to get in touch for confidential advice.”

The hotel was sold at an undisclosed price.
