Sheds and bins set on fire in latest arson attacks in York suburb

Arsonists have struck again in a suburb of York.

Firefighters were first called to Scarcroft Road at 9.19pm last night (Saturday) where two bins were alight.

They put them out using a knapsack spray. The fire service believes the fires to be deliberate.

Then, at 9.32pm, crews from York and Easingwold tackled two shed fires at the allotments off Scarcroft Road.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “It’s believed that these were caused deliberately.”

These are the latest in a number of incidents at allotments in the area. On 27 September, a shed was destroyed in an arson attack.

Less than a week later, two sheds were set alight at the nearby Hospital Fields Allotments.

And last month, police urged parents to be vigilant following a series of arson attacks in the area.
