Updated: Two people arrested over suspected robbery as police cordon lifted

Police cordoned off a flat in York today (Wednesday).

It was on Hewley Avenue, close to its junction with Constantine Avenue and Melrosegate.

Police tape was restricting access behind a first floor flat on the street.

Incident location

A number of police were in the area this morning. An alley between Constantine Avenue and Hewley Avenue was also taped off.

The cordons have now been lifted.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Two men have been arrested following a suspected robbery at an address on Hewley Avenue just after 3am this morning.

“They remain in custody for questioning.

“If you saw anything suspicious or have doorbell camera footage that may assist our investigation, please contact North Yorkshire Police quoting reference 122550236464.”

A number of residents told YorkMix that there had been a stabbing and someone was hurt.

But police say no one was injured in the incident.
