Police called after fire started deliberately near York riverside

Police were called after a fire was started near to the river in York last night (Wednesday).

Firefighters from Acomb responded to the incident near Stephenson Way, which is close to the Ouse off Water End, at 9.43pm.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Acomb responded to reports of rubbish on fire in a small wooded area.

“The fire was extinguished using buckets of water and knapsack sprayers.

“The cause was deliberate and the police had already been informed by a member of the public.”
