One flood warning and five flood alerts in force for York and North Yorkshire

There’s one flood warning and several flood alerts in force for York and North Yorkshire today (Monday).

The warning is for the River Derwent at Buttercrambe Mill.

The Environment Agency says: “High river levels are expected to cause flooding today. Flooding is expected today, 1st December 2025. Locations most affected will be Buttercrambe Mill at Buttercrambe Bridge. We are closely monitoring the situation.”

Here are the flood warnings (flooding is possible) in our area:

  • Upper River Ouse, York – Locations most affected will be isolated properties at Wawne Common, Woody Carr and North’s Bridge
  • Upper River Derwent – Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads near rivers, particularly around the Low Marishes and Malton area
  • Lower River Derwent – Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads near rivers, especially around Stamford Bridge, Pocklington, Wressle, Wilberfoss and Elvington
  • River Rye catchment – Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads near rivers, especially land around the River Rye and its tributaries, including Ralsdale Beck, River Seph, Ledge Beck, Fangdale Beck, Prodale Beck, Ladhill Beck, Etton Gill, Borough Beck, Spittle Beck, including properties of Salton, Nunnington and Helmsley
  • River Foulness and Market Weighton catchment – Locations most affected will be low lying land and roads near Welham Bridge.
