‘OMG!’ York restaurant creates the first donut burger

This York fried chicken restaurant is taking sweet and savoury to a new level.

Clucking Oinks, the fried chicken business with outlets at Spark York and on Castlegate, has launched a new special for February – the twist being that, instead of bread, the fried chicken is sandwiched between a sugary donut.

Titled the ‘Donutter’, the epic burger features Clucking Oinks fried chicken in a jam donut, with cheese, satay sauce, sriracha, coriander and fresh chillies.

The Donutter

The special is only available at the Castlegate restaurant location.

This isn’t the first time Clucking Oinks have gone viral for a burger with a sweet twist. In August 2024, owner Mike Brand came up with a special for National Burger Day – that featured hot fried chicken with a Cinnabon pastry as a bun. Though not everyone liked the idea…

The online reaction to the Donutter ranges from the minimal – “OMG!” and “Wow” – to “This intrigues me!” and the enthusiastic “Filth. Slide it in me”.

Clucking Oinks has had a presence in York since 2018. It regularly showcases highly creative ideas that go viral – such as their giant Mozzarella stick that launched last year.

If you’d like to give the Donutter a try – and who wouldn’t – head on down to Clucking Oinks on Castlegate this February.
