A major rescue operation was mounted in York early this morning after a person got stuck in the water.
Police and firefighters went to the incident, in the River Foss near Castlegate, at 1.36am.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from York and Acomb, alongside specialist water rescue resources from Malton and Ripon and a boat from Selby, responded to reports of a person in waist deep water, unable to get out.

“Police had secured the person with a throw line, and crews used a triple extension ladder to allow the person to exit the water.
“They were left in care of the police and ambulance service.”
