The 18 York Design Awards showcased the city’s architectural excellence, celebrating projects that exemplify innovation, sustainability, and respect for York’s rich heritage.
Ann Reid, Chair of the York Design Awards, said: “Duncombe Square was a worthy winner of the prestigious Lord Mayor’s Award and is a fantastic addition to the city.
“Through collaboration and a commitment to design quality, the scheme creates a distinctive, low-carbon neighbourhood that inspires future housing in York.

“I would like to congratulate all the winners in the respective categories as the entries this year were top class. A special thanks goes to our volunteer committee members, sponsors and partners who all help to make this the special event it has now become.”
Duncombe Square, located on Burton Stone Lane, includes 23 terraced houses ranging in size from two to four bedrooms, along with 11 one-bed apartments. Twenty-one of the homes have been offered for social rent and for purchase through shared ownership schemes.
Last year’s winners included York Minster’s Centre of Excellence for Heritage Skills, York Racecourse and the Cocoa Works.
Sponsors for this year’s awards include O’Neill Associates, York Civic Trust, Simpson & Brown, York Conservation Trust, YorHUB and York Architectural Association.
The awards ceremony was held at York Racecourse on 6 July.
