North Yorkshire rail bridge appeal gets a huge cash boost

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) says it is grateful to announce that the North York Moors National Park has awarded a £50,000 contribution to its Bridge 42 appeal.

It comes from the park’s S106 Landscape and Ecology fund under the Restoration of Degraded Heritage Assets scheme.

The funding will go directly towards the stabilisation and protection of Bridge 42 at Grosmont, a Grade II listed structure and the most historically significant bridge on the heritage railway. Without intervention, it faced irreversible deterioration.

Work on Bridge 42 continues, and while repairs are underway the railway remains open between Pickering and Goathland.

A spokesperson said: “We look forward to welcoming you on the full line from Pickering to Whitby from Monday 1st June, following the completion of the ‘Day Out With Thomas’ services.”

“Your support makes this heritage journey possible – so if you would like to help, donate here www.nymr.co.uk/bridge42
