New pictures show aftermath of A64 crane blaze – as road fully reopens

The impact of the blaze on the A64 is revealed in these new pictures.

YorkMix broke the news of the crane fire early yesterday morning (Thursday), which caused several explosions and sent tyres flying across the carriageway.

Even after fire crews put out the blaze, the road remained shut eastbound for the rest of the day.

And these photographs show why. A large part of the carriageway was melted by the heat of the flames.

Highways England tweeted: “We are pulling out all the stops to coordinate the reopening of the road.”

After the gutted remains of the crane were removed, they brought in planers to start the resurfacing.

And at 3.30am, the road fully reopened to traffic.
