Six-figure revamp transforms historic York pub – complete with upgraded beer garden

A popular pub just a stone’s throw from York Station has officially reopened its doors following a six-figure transformation.

The Windmill Inn on Blossom Street welcomed customers back inside over the weekend after a complete makeover.

The Greene King pub has been redesigned inside and out to create more space for everyone, including regulars, sports fans and commuters heading to and from the station.

The upgrades include:

  • A revamped courtyard beer garden: Complete with brand new furniture and planting, making it a prime spot for an alfresco pint.
  • An upgraded sports zone: Includes new screens showing both Sky Sports and TNT Sports, plus a new pool table.
  • A dedicated commuter hub: In a nod to its location, the pub has installed a live train times screen so travellers can relax and refuel without missing their connection.

People find it difficult to leave’

Johnny Want, general manager of The Windmill Inn, said the team is thrilled to be pulling pints again after the official reopening on Saturday (27 June).

“We are so pleased to be open again and serving customers,” he said. “We have a great location and are popular with our regulars, neighbours and workers in the area as well as commuters and people visiting the city.

“Our new look alongside The Windmill Inn’s warm welcome and great atmosphere makes us a great choice on the York pub scene.

“We really are a pub for all occasions with great sports viewing, we are perfect for colleague catch ups, leisurely lunches, and work drinks at the end of the day.

“People find it difficult to leave! Come in and see us today.”

The pub is open now and serving up its refreshed food and drink menus. Tables for food, drinks, or big match days can be booked in advance via the Greene King app or by visiting The Windmill Inn’s website.
