A much-loved York charity has been hit by a £100K bill – and they’re asking for your help.
Brunswick Organic Nursery needs the money to sort its sewers. Trustees fear that this will divert vital funds for people with learning disabilities.
So they have launched an SOS Sort Our Sewers fundraising campaign to raise cash.
Based at Appleton Road, Bishopthorpe, Brunswick’s mission is to enable people with learning disabilities to enrich their lives through work, developing relationships and building communities.
But the charity’s septic tank system is at breaking point.

And it’s the second winter during which adults with physical and learning disabilities are having to use cold portaloos and outdoor toilets.
Co-directors Lauren Webb and Michael Tansley Thomas are deeply worried about the impact the bills will have on the community at Brunswick.
“This is a daunting cost to face as an independent charity and will really impact our future plans,” says Lauren.

“Construction work begins early next year so we have set up this campaign now, to ask for everyone’s help. Everyone is looking forward to warm, accessible indoor toilets but this drain on our funds will hit us really hard.
“The York community has always rallied round to help us and we have great support from the people we work alongside and their families, as well as local businesses and charity donors. We’re hoping they will come to the rescue if they can!”
