Drivers frustrated by the long queues to get across a key North Yorkshire bridge will be unhappy to hear the latest update.
Selby Swing Bridge has been undergoing repairs for months – and now it’s been made clear it won’t be fixed until “later this year”.
It reopened to two-way traffic last month, but with temporary traffic lights, a 20mph limit, speed bumps.
It has caused long queues every day since.
The latest update from North Yorkshire Council means there’s no end to the congestion in sight.
It says: “After a steel plate became detached from the bridge in March, two-way traffic lights and a 20mph speed limit were put in place until investigations and temporary repairs could be designed and carried out.
“During these repairs, we uncovered issues with more plates, so the 20mph restriction and speed ramps remain in place.
“This is not a straightforward repair, and we are working with partners on a design scheme. We are unable to confirm a timeline for repairs, but we expect it to be later this year.
“We will provide updates when possible and are committed to keeping disruption to a minimum.”
