A man who fled from a car crash and was hit by a lorry is in hospital with serious injuries.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened on the A1M at Dishforth at about 10.45pm on Saturday (10 January).
A black Skoda Octavia travelling southbound joined the A1M via the slip road from the A168.
Crash location
It lost control as it joined the carriageway and crashed into the central reservation.
The two people in the Skoda fled from the car. One of them ran across the northbound carriageway where he was hit by a lorry. He was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries where he remains.
The other occupant ran off into woodland but was found a short time later and arrested.
The road was closed for five hours to allow emergency services to attend to the casualty, recover the vehicle and examine the scene.
The lorry driver was uninjured.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing to anyones who saw the black Skoda prior to the crash or saw the crash happen and anyone who saw the two men running off from the scene, across either carriageway, or the incident with the lorry including any dashcam footage of any part of the incident.”
