Five fire crews tackle building blaze on main Scarborough road

A main Scarborough road was closed this afternoon due to a building on fire.

Emergency services shut North Marine Drive between Woodall Avenue and Castle Road.

Police, fire and ambulance crews went to the scene at 12.48pm.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “While firefighters deal with a building blaze on North Marine Road in Scarborough, access to the location has been closed via the Woodall Avenue and Castle Road junctions.

“Please avoid the area until further notice.”

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Scarborough, Sherburn, Malton, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby responded to reports of a residential property fire inside a fourth floor flat.

“Crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, two thermal imaging cameras, and an aerial ladder platform to extinguish the fire.”

Fire crews are still at the scene.
