It’s party time! Spark York celebrates milestone birthday this bank holiday

Come and celebrate Spark York’s birthday this bank holiday – with a day of cake, cocktails, and quizzing.

The unique venue on Piccadilly, York, is turning eight on Monday 4 May, and they’re marking the occasion with a bumper bank holiday of fun.

The celebrations will be open to all, and will include free birthday cake from a local bakery, a complimentary photobooth and an evening quiz night raising money for a local cause.

Since opening its doors in 2018, Spark has welcomed over 430,000 visitors a year.

Take a look what Spark first looked like when it opened back in 2018 – and the venue is currently due to stay at its current site in Piccadilly until 2030.

A community for independent food, drink and retail traders alongside art studios, co-working, a biweekly zero waste food supermarket and a community wealth building hub, while also hosting up to 100 community groups a year for free.

Here’s the line-up for Spark’s special birthday bash:

  • Free birthday cake – 80 free birthday cupcakes will be given away from York independent bakery Crumbs Cupcakery.
  • £8 cocktails, all day – guests can enjoy SPARK’s full cocktail menu for just £8 per drink all day.
  • 8 surprises every hour – from 12pm – 9pm, SPARK will surprise eight lucky guests with a complimentary drink token.
  • Charity Quingo – Fan favourite quiz-bingo night Quingo is returning for a Summer special! SPARK co-founder, Sam, will host this very special installment, with the birthday special raising proceeds for Merchant Taylors’ Community Grant Fund.
  • Free photobooth – guests can take advantage of the SPARK photobooth for free all day.
  • Complimentary birthday zine – a specially produced zine will be available throughout the day, shining a light on eight years of SPARK – the traders, the community, and the milestones that have made it what it is today.

Sam Leach, co-founder of SPARK, said: “It’s brilliant to celebrate our eighth birthday.

“We are lucky to have such a brilliant team, a committed and ambitious group of traders and also have the fortune of working with so many community groups that bring such vibrancy, vitality and impact to Piccadilly, to York, and beyond.”
