First look inside new show home opened at major York housing development

A new show home at the Germany Beck housing development in York has been officially opened.

MP for York Outer Luke Charters joined representatives from York-based housebuilder Persimmon at the site in Fulford.

Homes are being sold under both the Persimmon and Charles Church brands. The new show home giving homebuyers the chance to look round one of the remaining houses being sold under the Charles Church banner.

More than 650 new homes will be delivered at Germany Beck in total upon completion, with less than 200 homes now left to be built.

More than a third of the homes are being transferred to registered providers for social rent and discounted sale, with an additional 38 properties also transferred to York-based Yorkshire Housing.

Prices on Germany Beck start from £290,000 for a two-bedroom property in the Persimmon range with the mix of homes going up to 5-bedroom detached properties costing £525,000.

A new Budgens supermarket opened on site last year which followed the commencement of a new bus route serving the development.

More than a third of purchasers at Germany Beck have been first-time buyers. Over 80% of customers come from an existing YO postcode.

Luke Charters, MP for York Outer said; “It was great to be back at Germany Beck and see the progress being made on what is becoming a real community for York.

“We know there is huge demand for housing across our city, particularly for young people and families who want to stay local, so it is encouraging to see a mix of homes being delivered here, including affordable housing and homes for social rent.

“I was especially pleased to hear that so many buyers are from York postcodes. People want the chance to put down roots in the city they grew up in, close to family, work and schools, and developments like this have an important role to play in that.”

Scott Waters, regional managing director for Persimmon and Charles Church said; “We were delighted to host Luke Charters MP again to formally open our new Charles Church show home and update him on progress on the development.

“As we enter the final couple of years on the site, there are still plenty of fantastic homes remaining for local homebuyers ranging from 2-bed, through to 5-bedroom properties, providing a mix to choose from whether you’re a first-time buyer, family or downsizer.”
