Firefighters were called to an incident in Acomb last night (Monday).
They responsed to a fire alarm sounding at a home on Front Street at 5.37pm.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “It was discovered that there had been a small cooker fire that was out prior to crew arrival.

“Crews used a positive pressure ventilation fan to assist with ventilating the smoke out of the property. Cause believed to be accidental.”
