New road sign spotted with a missing letter in the name of village near York

A new road sign in the village of Crayke near Easingwold has an easily missed spelling mistake.

There is a D missing from the village of BRANDSBY up the road. Instead it says Bransby, which is actually in North Lincolnshire, about 90 miles away.

Annie Stirk who lives in Brandsby (with a D) says it’s been causing some amusement on the village WhatsApp group.

“We all thinks it’s quite hilarious, really. I’m sure everybody’s been past the crossing, but you need to be quite eagle-eyed to spot it, because I use that road a lot, I hadn’t spotted it at first.

“They have been replacing all the signs round here because one of the signs coming past our house up into Brandsby was looking very weather-beaten, and that’s all shiny and new now.

“It looks great, but I wouldn’t like to be the person who signed off that particular sign in Crayke.”

YorkMix has asked North Yorkshire Council to comment and a spokesperson said:

“This was an honest mistake, and a patch has since been ordered to rectify the error as soon as possible.”
