Fire close to house in York

Firefighters were called to a fire close to a house in York early today (Monday).

Crews from York and Acomb were called to the incident at 12.40am next to a house in Dodsworth Avenue.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The fire was accidental and was caused by hot embers spreading from a bin to the exterior of the house.

“The fire also spread to the electricity box and a hedge.

“The electricity was isolated by the provider and the fire was extinguished by the Fire Service using a hose reel jet.

“A thermal imaging camera and lighting equipment was also used.”
