Updated: Broken rail on the East Coast Main Line fixed

** Update: The track has been fixed but there’s ongoing disruption till at least 9am on Tuesday, 6 January **

Snow in Scotland and a track fault near London has prompted LNER to issue a ‘Do Not Travel’ notice tonight (Monday, 5 January).

It covers services between London, York, Selby, Northallerton, Newcastle and Scotland.

LNER says: “Due to heavy snowfall between Edinburgh and Aberdeen and a speed restriction over defective track between Peterborough and Stevenage, we are advising customers to defer travel.”

Hull Trains at Selby and Grand Central at Thirsk have also been affected by this issue.

If you hold an LNER ticket across the network dated Monday 05 January and are able to defer your travel, You can use your existing ticket on another LNER service up to and including Tuesday 06 January.

If you are unable to defer your journey, they have arrangements in place to assist you to complete your journey.

You can use your ticket on the following train companies at no extra cost:

  • Avanti West Coast between London Euston, Manchester ONLY
  • TransPennine Express between Manchester, Leeds and York/Newcastle.
  • Northern trains betweenSheffield, Leeds, Harrogate, Bradford FQ and Skipton
  • East Midlands Railway (EMR) between London St Pancras, Leicester and Sheffield.
  • CrossCountry between Sheffield, Doncaster/Leeds, York and Newcastle/Edinburgh.
  • Thameslink & Great Northern on all suitable routes to help complete your journey.
