Disruption during Whitby Goth Weekend

As Whitby Goth Weekend is well underway, the town’s Swing Bridge officially closed at 12 today, Saturday 2 May, and will run through Tuesday, May 5.

However, there are local reports is it causing some disruption, as North Yorkshire Council predicted since it is at a pivotal location at the heart of the festival.

North Yorkshire Council said, “This is to improve pedestrian safety at busy times.” The council also said, “Additional barriers will be installed during these times.

The practical effect is plain: buses keep using the bridge, while other traffic does not. For drivers and visitors trying to reach the festival area, that leaves the bridge operating under a tighter set of rules than usual.”

People heading in by car will need to plan around the restriction, while bus passengers keep the direct crossing

Whitby Goth Weekend is a biannual festival, and the closure is tied to the busy times around it.
